Ypsilanti Bicycling Coalition

A new bicycling group has begun in Ypsilanti: the Ypsilanti Bicycling Coalition (or Bike Ypsi for short). The Coalition is hosting a 15 mile ride this Fall throughout Ypsilanti and Ypsilanti Township on October 21st

Midtown’s 2nd Annual Night of Lights

Midtown Neighborhood Association (MNA) will be selling luminary kits for our annual Midtown Night of Lights Celebration on Saturday, December 9. Help us decorate our neighborhood for the evening by purchasing a luminary kit or two to line your sidewalk or yard. Proceeds from the kits will go to the MNA.

Midtown Residents open store Downtown

We’re sure that most of you have already heard—or been there!— Paul Balcom and Eli Morrissey from Congress Street have opened up a new store called “The Rocket” on Michigan Avenue in the old NAACP storefront.

As you will find out: if you’ve gone once, you’ve gone again! It’s really a neat store and a lot of fun—a great new business for Ypsilanti, with local owners from Midtown. What more could we ask for?

Fall Leaf Pick-up and Yard Waste Schedule

The City of Ypsilanti will begin its annual leaf pick up on Monday, October 23, 2006 and will continue until the late December holiday season or until which time there is inclement weather.

Save A Landmark And Help The Senior Center Reach Its 45th Anniversary!

The Center has been a part of the landscape in Recreation Park since 1961 and home to the Ypsilanti Senior Center for 44 years. This community treasure, which has been a meeting place for young and old alike for many years, is in danger of having to close its doors forever.

Support the Police and Firefighter Memorial Garden

Dear Neighbors,

I know that we are all enjoying the wonderful new gateway to our Midtown community, the Police and Firefighter Memorial Garden on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Ballard. Isn't it wonderful?! What an improvement! And what an honor to Midtown to have this new garden in our neighborhood!

Downtown Parking Update

In response to questions raised about parking enforcement in the downtown area, Ed Koryzno spoke with George Basar. The police had distributed a flier that indicated parking restrictions would now be fully enforced. After realizing the parking lots were still not usable, the Police Department will continue their policy of relaxed parking enforcement until the parking lots are completed

If you have attended one or more of the first three Town Hall meetings on city finances hosted by your Council, thank you! If you have not yet attended a Town Hall, there will be other opportunities in the near future. Please try to come, and bring your neighbors. Understanding the factors that have wrecked the financial equation for Michigan cities will be the key to creating solutions that will help us keep Ypsilanti on track for a bright future.
