Zoning Changes Success!
Great news! The council voted unanimously last night (with the complete support of everyone present) to approve the intermediate downzoning plan before them.
Now, all of Summit and most of Normal has been downzoned to R2 (excluding the West side of North Normal) and part of Midtown around Congress and Michigan Avenue went to R3 (it was previously R4).
This intermediate plan will help to stabilize our neighborhood by preventing any more houses from being divided into apartments and, at the same time make insuring and financing nonconforming homes that have already been divided easier for families who want to live in our neighborhood! Hopefully those families will then turn those houses back into single family homes when they are able to!
Even better news is that the Council approved the resolution asking the Planning Commission to further downzone ALL of Midtown to R1a within the next year. This Midtown R1a downzoning plan has had the widespread support of City officials, residents and property owners, alike! Council has also requested that we continue to express our support for the Midtown R1a Plan as it works its way through the development and approval process of Planning Commission.
This is a huge achievement for Midtown and I hope you are all as excited asI am.
MIDTOWN ROCKS!!!
